The following video is just for the research of finding a replacement of our air conditioner control knobs.

It will be deleted once we get it fixed in the dash.

It also can be viewed at this link for a larger image. Click here!

Riverpoint Landing Marina and resort

Hi there everyone,

Well, we wanted to get away for the weekend, and so we made short trip down the delta to the much maligned city of Stockton, which like Pit Bulls, gets a bad rap. Though yes, there are bad parts of Stockton, just like any city, there are some great parts too. This area, which use to be called the Stephens Anchorage, is a great place to come and hang out.

This is our second trip to Riverpoint landing, and there were a number of events it happen to coincide with. First of all, this is the first time this year, that the weather exceeded 100 degrees in temperature this year, and it did it two days in a row, on Friday and on Saturday. The good thing was that at least being here on the river, the temperatures at night cooled off fairly quickly. There were also a couple of special exhibits at the local Haggin Museum that were of interest, one having to do with the NFL and it's contributions during war time, and a NASA exhibit, having to do with what it is like to look down on earth from a satellite.

When we arrived on Friday afternoon, we set up camp and then went to lunch at a recommended place called the San Felipe Grill. This was actually the second time this had been recommended to us and thought it must be worth a try. Actually, it was ok, but nothing super special, so we doubt that we will be there again. Don't get us wrong, the food was acceptable, and now we just have other places to try in the future!

We then returned to camp where we could enjoy sitting out by the edge of the river from our RV site. One of the nice things about an RV, is they do have the ability to provide a lot of shade!

Our main objective of the weekend, other than to get some relaxation and get away from home for a while, was to go to the Haggin Museum down here in Stockton, so see the exhibit chronicling the contributions that the NFL has made during the times our country has been involved in military conflicts. We were in for much more than we expected.

First off, the rose garden next to the museum had some wonderful flowers to stroll through and enjoy.

Next, we had the added bonus of being able to take in part of a talk, presented by Jose Hernandez, a Stockton born gentleman that became an astronaut and went to the international space station on the shuttle Discovery! His talk was one that was very inspirational, especially to the younger ones in the audience.

Other things we got to see in the museum were a large number of pieces of farm equipment manufactured by the HOLT company here in Stockton. They were actually the company that perfected the Caterpillar drive!

There are many wonderful art works here at the museum that seem so life-like, so three dimensional that they pop out of the canvas at you. If you ever spend some time in Stockton, be sure to plop down you 8 bucks and check this museum out!

In the NFL exhibit there were many pieces of memorabilia to check out including uniforms, NFL champion ship rings and military commendations. There were also a number of video displays that one could watch to learn more about the contributions of the NFL.

When we returned to camp, we arrived to find that Riverpoint Landing was the finish line to a regatta that was going on this weekend. There were many wonderful small yachts that we go to enjoy passing by our RV spot.

We really enjoyed our two days away from home. Stay tuned for a video about this adventure coming up soon. Next month, we will be hooking up with family at the Jackson Rancheria RV park.

It's doggie wash day!

Every once in a while, whether the dogs think they need it or not, it is time for them to get a bath. In the winter months, if it is cold and rainy or otherwise uncomfortable for some reason, we can wash the dogs in the shower in the bathroom. But, it's not as easy for us, and their doggie toe nails could potentially cause damage to the bottom of the plastic shower area, though with the few times we've had to do it that way, it hasn't caused any damage.

Our preferred method is to conduct the baths using the outside shower of the rig and some of the rubber mats that were bought when we started 'The RV IT Guy' business. So, with the outside shower, a couple of the rubber mats, a trio of cinder blocks, a cool beverage, some doggie shampoo and of course a dog or three, it's time to get to work!

Check out the resulting video!

We've conducted this practice a number of times and though none of the dogs seem to 'Jump for joy' at the prospect of doing it, they all eventually come around to the idea and make it fairly easy on us!

We've got such wonderful dogs...

Memorial Day

I know, we've been bad about posting lately. All I can say is we've been busy. Carol has been fighting pneumonia and allergies. And just busy with honestly, we don't know what. None the less, Eric has been going to the Animal shelter at least once a week walking dogs and the like, and both of us have been reporting to work on a daily basis just to do our part of keeping the State of California running as smoothly as possible. But, none of that is really important today...

Today is Memoria day. A day where we pause to remember those who have served in the US armed forces and given the ultimate sacrafice, of their lives, in defence of our nation. Our recognition of Memorial Day this year was a three pronged attack. First, on Saturday, on our way to a family Bar-B-Que at Bill, Loretta and Brandons in Pioneer, we stopped at the American Legion post in Jackson to visit the bricks for Carol's dad Calvin as well as for Eric's dad John. Though, both made it home from their tour's of duty with their respective branches in World War II, it was none the less important for us to pause and remember them as they are no longer with us.

On Sunday, we didn't have much on our agenda, but we did want to get out to the Mount Vernon Memorial Park in Fair Oaks to view the replica of the Vietnam war memorial wall that was erected in recognition of Memorial day to help those who may not be able to make it to Washington DC, remember all of the brave members of our US armed forces that gave their lives during the conflict in South East Asia.

On Monday morning, we went to the former Mather Air Force Base, where the VA hospital is for the Rancho Cordova Memorial Day rememberance. This is always such a wonderful event. We've been to the Veterans day events in the past, but for some reason, this was the first time we had been their for memorial day. Of course, we've only live in Rancho cordova for a couple years, so we figure we've only missed one since we moved here. They always have such a wonderful event. For Veterans day, they have had the Army band, this time, it was a small ensemble from the Air Force. The ensemble may have been small, but they were WONDERFUL! It's always so up-lifting to attend this event. We always make an effort when we run into someone in a veterans cap or in uniform, we always thank them for their service to our country.

If you have served in the US Armed forces, thank you so very much for your service to our country.

Carols appendix

On Friday morning the 22nd of March, Carol woke up with a pain in her lower right side of her torso. She wasn't sure, but her gut (get it gut) was telling her that it was her appendix. So, instead of getting up and getting ready for work, we got ready to head down to the ER ward of the Kaiser South Sacramento.

We've become great fan's of Kaiser, ever since we joined about 4 years ago, and this experience was no exception. We arrived at the ER at around 7:00 AM. They gave her something to reduce the pain and then scheduled her for a CT scan. The CT scan was done by 8:15 and we had met the surgeon by 9:15. By 10:30, she was in the Pre-Op ward to have her appendix taken out.

The doctor and nurses told me that the procedure if all went well would be an hour and a half to two hours. With me waiting in the Surgical waiting room, the doctor came out before 12:00 noon to tell me that surgery had gone well and she was in recovery... WOW, that was fast! Because of the excitement and protracted recovery time involved in Carols Gal-bladder surgery 6 years ago, the surgeon opted to keep Carol over night to keep tabs on her recovery.

With a little respiratory and physical therapy, Carol was ready to go home on Saturday morning. Naturally, I spent as much time as I could with her, but with we still had the three dogs at home that needed looking after. Thankfully, Katie and Russ tag teamed with me to help keep the dogs walked, watered and fed, and all was right with the world.

Carol's recovery went much better than the one tied to her Gal-bladder, and she was back to work, full steam, a week after the surgery to remover her appendix.

As always, Carol was a real trooper. Carol's only regret is that she was down and out while Karen and Mike were passing through town as they left for their 6 month road trip around the United States including Alaska!
Also, she missed out on a great dinner where I took Karen and Mike to Shady Lady for dinner. We wanted to take them to dinner there specifically because they serve 'Four Roses' burbon which is one of Mikes favorites!

Now that Carol is feeling all better, we just have to figure out where we want to go next in the motorhome. We're thinking maybe Half-moon bay!

March Motorhome Modification and Maintenance Madness Part 2

Starting with Friday the 8th of March, we began the process of getting the tops of the Front, back and sides of the motorhome repainted. Anyone who has seen our motorhome in the past knows that our Rig is really beautiful, but many of the Allegro Buses that are of our vintage, has problem of blistering and pealing of the paint at the top of the coach. So, we set out over a year ago to get bids on what it would cost to get the rig painted. One of the bids was as high as $10,000. However, we found Performance Color RV in Sacramento that would paint it for about $2,700 which was much more along the lines of what we expected.

Below are a couple of before and after pictures of the rig.

Also, here is a video showing the rig while it was at Performance Color RV.

Of course, when we got the rig painted, we couldn't be in the rig. So, we talked to Performance Color RV about if we disappeard for the weekend how that might work. We agreed that if we dropped the rig off Friday morning, it would be done by the end of the day on Tuesday. Well, it turned out that on Sunday the 10th of March, the family would be getting together to celebrate Mike Wraights 65th Birthday as well as Chuck's wife Terri's birthday. We didn't want to miss out on all of this celebration, so we thought we would head up for a visit.

As always,  Karen and Mike were wonderful hosts during our visit up there.

Mike and Karen have also been preparing for the longest RV trip of their lives. They are taking a trip Georgia, then Conneticut and then to Alaska. This trip is expected to take 6 months! In preparation for this trip, they had their own list of things that needed to be done on their motorhome before they could hit the road. So, while we were in Oregon, we helped with the following list of their own "March Motorhome Maintenance and Modification Madness" Items: Replace the water pump, bring a recliner into the rig, install floor molding, fix the water line that feeds the shower head, install plastic sheeting for the spare tire area and replace the straps used to tie down the window awnings.

With all of their RV work completed and the birthday celebration completed, we headed home from Oregon on Tuesday morning and the rig was ready for us when we got there just as promised.

Now the only things we have left that needs to be done on our rig is getting the dash air conditioner and a few other items repaired by Folsom Lake RV. That will wrap up our March Motorhome Modification and Maintenance madness. We'll keep you posted on this as well!
