Fighting a pesky electrical problem

So, we have had some periodic problems with the 110 Volt thermostat of our water heater failing. After replacing the thermostat several times. Each time, Eric was concerned about the discoloration of the connections for the 110 Volt thermostat. This time, when the thermostat failed, the plastic insulation of the connectors broke because it was so brittle.

After doing some investigation on the internet, Eric came to the conclusion that the connections were poor between the connector on the wire and the thermostat. Eric also found the same problem on the on-off switch for the 110 Volt portion of the water heater. You will notice the discoloration on one of the connectors on the switch.

Eric will now look into the best way to ensure that the connections are appropriately tight the next time he attaches them.

We will keep you posted!
